Pompeii is located in Campania in the southern part of Italy which has very fertile volcanic soil and thus grows lush fruits and vegetables including lemon, the famous San Marzano tomato, basil and olive. Campania is the origin of pizza and is also famous for the buffalo mozzarella cheese and tubular pasta. While visiting Pompeii, it will be the best opportunity to taste the delicious Pizza Margherita made from San Marzano tomato sauce, mozzarella cheese, basil and extra virgin olive oil. Since Pompeii is close to the coastline, there is plenty of fresh seafood which is a major ingredient of the local cuisine. A typical meal has three courses.
